Japanese Language Proficiency Test
(JLPT)

JLPT is offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services since 1984 as a means of evaluating and certifying the Japanese language proficiency of non-native speakers. The skills tested cover language knowledge, such as vocabulary and grammar, reading ability and listening ability. Basic, Elementary, Intermediate, Pre-Advanced and Advanced levels are available for individuals or groups keen to learn for the JLPT syllabus.

 

JLPT certificates offer various advantages ranging from recognition as academic credit and graduation certification at schools to preferential treatment at companies and acknowledgement of qualification in society.

 

The JLPT has 5 levels namely N5-N1. The easiest level is N5 and the most difficult level is N1. JLPT certification has no expiry date.

N1
(Advanced Level)
The ability to understand Japanese used in a variety of circumstances.

N2
(Pre-Advanced Level)
The ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations and in a variety of circumstances to a certain degree.

N3
(Intermediate Level)
The ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to a certain degree.

N4
(Elementary Level)
The ability to understand basic Japanese.
 
N5
(Basic Level)
The ability to understand some basic Japanese.

Students who are interested in taking the JLPT have the option of taking the test held twice a year in July and in December.

In addition, Art in Japanese, a teaching pedagogy developed by me will be used in lessons. This methodology uses art as a tool with unique characters, various everyday scenarios and vivid illustrations to provide a unique opportunity for students to enhance their language skills with adequate opportunity to practise their communication skills in everyday contexts. The use of art as a learning tool also enhances positive retention and application.
